Why I Started a Travel YouTube Channel (When I Already Have a Full-Time Photography Business)

If you had told me a year ago that I’d be starting a travel YouTube channel, I probably would’ve laughed… and then gone back to editing 600 newborn photos while reheating my coffee for the third time.

Because let’s be honest—running a photography business is already a lot. Between sessions, editing, emails, social media, and trying to remember what day it is… adding another creative project sounds slightly unhinged.

And yet… here we are.

So, Why Travel?

Photography has always been my thing—capturing real moments, real people, real stories. But somewhere along the way, I realized something:

I love documenting experiences just as much as I love photographing people.

Travel does something to you. It pulls you out of your routine, makes everything feel new again, and (let’s be real) gives you way better lighting than Ontario in February.

But more than that, I found myself constantly researching trips, planning itineraries, comparing costs, and asking:

  • Is this actually worth it?

  • Is this place overhyped?

  • How do I make the most of my time here?

And I thought… why not share this?

The Real Reason I Hit “Record”

I didn’t start my YouTube channel because I think I’m the next big travel influencer.

I started it because:

  • I love creating

  • I love helping people make better decisions (especially when it comes to spending money on travel)

  • And honestly… I wanted something that felt fun again

No pressure. No perfection. Just real experiences, real opinions, and real breakdowns.

Like:

  • What things actually cost (because why is everything so confusing online?)

  • What’s worth doing vs. what you can skip

  • Hidden gems vs. “Instagram vs reality” moments

Also… Let’s Talk About Growth

As a photographer, I’m always evolving. The industry is changing (hello AI 👀), and I never want to feel stuck.

This channel is my way of:

  • Expanding creatively

  • Learning new skills (video is a whole different world, by the way)

  • Building something that isn’t just one lane

And who knows? Maybe one day it connects back into my photography in a way I didn’t expect.

Or maybe it just gives me an excuse to travel more.

What You Can Expect

If you’re following along, here’s the vibe:

  • Honest travel experiences (not sugar-coated)

  • Cost breakdowns (because budgets matter)

  • Tips that actually help you, not just look pretty on a reel

  • And a little bit of chaos, because… me

Final Thoughts

Starting something new is always a little uncomfortable—especially when you’re already established in something else.

But sometimes you just need to follow that creative pull and see where it goes.

Worst case? I have a bunch of fun travel videos to look back on.

Best case? I help someone plan a trip they’ll never forget.

And honestly… that feels pretty worth it.
